What has happened so far
In Spring 2009, the communities in Sharrow and Nether Edge came together to think about how best to promote road safety. Discussion groups were arranged, this website was created and local people were encouraged to exchange ideas. Local children at Abbeydale Grange School also thought about new ways to keep local roads safer.
In total 930 ideas about how best to promote road safety were suggested by the communities in Sharrow and Nether Edge. Many ideas were aimed at encouraging people to pay attention and to keep themselves safe when they’re out and about on the roads. Popular ideas included reminding people to:
- make sure they cross the road at designated crossings.
- take extra care and pay attention when travelling along the busiest stretches of road.
Local children who attended the Football Unites Racism Divides Community Day in May 2009 also created drawings about what they think road safety is all about.
